Hello! I’m Mikhayla. Welcome to my blog about my adventures in Second Life! Posts will be about my adventures, my girlfriend Jess, our adventures, some reviews, some live music in SL things, and my club Miktopia. I’ll also blog a bit about my past. Some posts may be a bit more 18+ in nature. You can find me in world at mikhaylameow resident.

One of the things that has helped me kind of “land on my feet” in Second Live over the past 8-10 months has been focusing on my own land, and then having my own club.
Having this club hasn’t been the easiest. I think about what I do and the events we hold at Miktopia and I can’t even imagine if it was a club that had multiple events every day. Clubs that do that – and sustain it – are impressive.
When originally creating Miktopia, it was me. Some friends helped with the setting things up; others served as DJs and such. I did the hosting and everything else with it. And it was fine. We only did a few times a week and it got to be a lot of fun.
Over that time, I also realized what works and doesn’t work – for me.
In my time in Second Life, I’ve seen many clubs open to great fanfare and within a month or two, they are closed and gone. Maybe part of it is cost. So many clubs seem to rent a full region and that can be upwards of $50-$75 USD a week. That’s not cheap! They build these elaborate (or not-so elaborate) sims and try to pack people in. DJ boards help keep shows in line. They have multiple events a day.
But, eventually, it gets boring, wouldn’t you think?
People come and go. They might be in the mood for this type of music or DJ, but not the next. Sim donations aren’t something one can bank on, so it can be hit or miss. If they have staff, sometimes it’s too much. (I worked briefly at one place where they had owners, a DJ manager, a host manager, and an overall manager. You had to go through the “chain of command” or they’d scold you. Where’s the fun in that?) If there are too many hands in, it gets confusing and can be overwhelming.
A lot of these clubs eventually fold.
With my place, Miktopia, I decided to do things differently. At least from what I have seen. My goal was small. Have a little beach sim, an event area, and adult spots. Slice off a parcel of the land and make it my private my home. It worked well for me. I’ve since expanded, and with Jess’ s land on the same region, we combine prims and utilize things together now. So we have the club, the beach area, our home we share, and a couple of platforms in the sky (our private photo/build one, and the Blue Light District, which is a Second Live BDSM/cage sim). We utilize things on a smaller scale.
There’s also only three of us who are “staff” – me, Faithe (Miktopia’s manager) and Jess.
That works better.
On top of that, we only hold events five days a week, and most of the time it’s only one event. We have two DJs on Sunday, one on Tuesday, and one on Thursday. Wednesday is Miktopia LIVE! That is a great night as we have live music, but the amount depends on the week. Sometimes we have two singers. Sometimes upward of six. Friday’s bring our live Campfire with Raspbury Rearwin, which is a relaxed event with conversation and live music. Some Fridays we also have the Strokerz Girlz, which is a lot of fun as well.
But we don’t overdo it (or try not to, anyway).
We don’t have all sorts of managers. I handle live acts. Faithe handles DJs. Jess pitches in on numerous things. The three of us are the only ones who change the music and we don’t have DJ boards and all that. I work to create posters for every event to give it a personal touch. It’s important for me to try and do things differently and give it a more hands-on feel. I’ve been to many clubs where there’s no “management” at an event or somebody logs in to “host” a radio show …
… yes, seriously.
We all do things differently. I started Miktopia in February and there’s been a nice, slow build. I hope we survive over time and that people enjoy being at events and performing there. There are a lot of clubs in Second Life, so we keep doing what we can to make our place unique.
Come check us out when you can! We have a blast and would love to see you on the beach, or in the sky in the Blue Light District!

Hello, blogging world!
This is round two, as the first — something happened with my setup. So being there was only one post, I deleted it and started again. This post will seem familiar.
I’ve debated doing this for a long time, and am finally getting around to it. This blog is going to be a journey of my trip in Second Life. Though I’ve been on the grid nearly three years when I am starting this, I plan to keep current, but also go back into my memory and photo banks and write up some stories and things about the experiences I’ve had.
Second Life has been a virtual world with real emotions and real feelings. It’s been a place of fun, of sadness, of love, of anger, and every other emotion in between. It’s been a place where I’ve gone to help escape the real world; and a place where I’ve dreaded logging into at times, but during those times — I knew I needed to log in, deal with the emotions and keep going as it’s truly a wonderful place in the overall big picture.
The photos on this blog will be tame and adult; kinky and vanilla; and anything else I can come up with. One thing I’ve always done since starting in SL — I’ve taken photos. I’ve tried to document my journey and I hope I can keep it up as I go along.
This blog will have a bit of everything. I’ll write about the past and present; I’ll talk about events and such at Miktopia (my beach sim – adult rating, with a BDSM area in the sky!); I’ll talk about my friends (and sometimes even my enemies); and I’ll probably even do some fashion blogging, as well as some reviews of products I use within the world. These types of things could be anything from huds to objects to photo poses and props — whatever I’ve purchased over time is open game.

I will definitely be doing “reviews” of sorts about live music in Second Life, as it’s something I’m really loving.
There will also be a heavy presence of Jess on the blog, and our adventures.
Basically, I want this to be a fun blog with a bunch of different things to write about and to cover. I’m not sure how many eyes will ever be on it, but it’s well worth doing, even if just for me to help document where I’ve been and where I’m going.

I hope you’ll come along with this journey and enjoy it with me!
